Microsoft Investigating Blue Screen of Death Issue in Windows 10 and 11
Issue with Processor Incompatibility
Microsoft began investigating the blue screen of death issue in Windows 10 and 11 with a report of processor incompatibility.
Affected users have indicated that the problem started showing up after recent updates even though the system was installed on computers with supported processors.
The problem leads to the crash of the operating system and the appearance of the “blue screen of death”, BSOD, with “UNSUPPORTED_PROCESSOR” message indicating processor incompatibility.
Microsoft has acknowledged the issue and encouraged users to provide feedback on the issue through the Feedback Hub app.
Microsoft stated that the reports it received about the problem reached it after installing the KB5029331 and KB5029351 updates released this August and then rebooting the devices, and Microsoft attempted to resolve the issue by removing the KB5029331 update to allow Windows to work as expected.
User Reports and Temporary Fixes
From user reports on the Microsoft feedback app, it appears that the problem mostly occurs on MSI motherboards running Intel 600 and 700 series processors, and is relatively less common on motherboards from other companies such as Asus and Gigabyte.
Gigabyte advised users to temporarily fix the issue by reverting the BIOS to a previous version and removing updates KB5029351 from Windows 11 and KB5029331 from Windows 10.
Microsoft has not yet figured out the causes of the problem that led to the crash of the Windows system after recent updates.
