Journalist Vaqar Satti punished for allegedly linking “disrespectful” statements about Islam to Imran – Pakistan

The Rawalpindi police opened a criminal case. against journalist Waqar Satti on accusations of attributing “disrespectful” statements, “not based on Facts” about Islam to PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

The case was registered at the Bazar Police Department of the Republic of Armenia. on Saturday on a complaint of cable operator Chaudhry Nasir Qayyum under sections 295-A (intentional and malicious acts intended to offend religious feelings of any class by offending its religion or religious beliefs) and 500 (penalty for slander) of Pakistan Penal Code.

According to first information report (FIR), copy of which the available with Dawn.comthe complainant told the police that, while in his office on On August 24, he came across a tweet in which the person identified as Waqar Satti explained why he “hates” Imran and the reasons of he’s going against in former prime minister.

The FIR referred to statements that, according to the complainant, “did not respect” Islam.

Satti, he said, attributed these statements to Imran. He added that he had never heard any Muslim make such remarks and “associate these words and remarks with former prime minister Imran Khan not founded on data”.

“Imran Khan did not mention such words. […] mentioned in Tweet by Wakar Satty – in Any of his speeches,” FIR quoted him as saying. He added that Satti’s actions hurt his religious feelings, “and also that of thousands of other Muslims.”

The applicant alleged that Satti committed “great injustice” and went to court against his on the foundation of these accusations.

How news of Booked Satty shared on social media, former minister and PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry reacted to the tweet and said the case was about “using religion for disturbance”.

“And that’s what the gentleman did; shame on all supporters for using religion for political purposes,” he said.
