With successful companies like Tesla and SpaceX under his belt, many thought Elon Musk would take on Twitter and revolutionize social media, but his months at the helm of the microblog turned out to be quite tumultuous, with thousands of employees fired from authentication through the troubles around Plechnik to mass ban journalists last week.
So far, Musk has apparently been untouched by criticism, but his latest change, unveiled tonight, was so poorly received by the world that the billionaire has already offered to step down as leader.
The story began when Twitter updated its user policy yesterday and under the new regulation it would be prohibited from posting links to some other social networking sites (Facebook, Instagram, Truth Social, Tribel, Post, Nostr and Mastodon) both in posts and in the description user profiles.
Those who did were threatened with suspension, but in exchange for payment, the practice, interpreted as “advertising” for other platforms, would be allowed.

The move naturally sparked a lot of outrage, as no other social network forbids mentioning competitors, and users love to display links to their accounts on other platforms in their profiles. As a result of the failed reception, the official Twitter account deleted the post about the tightening hours later, and the show continued on Elon Musk’s message board, who apologized and announced that he would no longer make major changes without a public vote.
However, this is far from the end of the repentance: shortly after, the billionaire posted a new poll on whether he should step down from his executive position on Twitter. Musk promises to bow to the result, and at the time of this writing, after 13 million votes, the share of votes “for” leads with 56.5%.

However, according to some comments, the vote is just a farce, as Musk has already decided that he wants to leave the post of CEO, which became pregnant for him. This may be indicated by the last two posts of the billionaire. In one of them, allegedly commenting on the state of the vote, he writes that “be careful what you wish for because you might get it“and in another what”those who want power the most deserve it the least“.
