Ford Unveils $300,000 2025 Mustang GTD: A Powerful Challenger to European Supercars

Introducing the 2025 Mustang GTD: Ford’s Powerful New Addition to the Mustang Lineup

Executives say the idea for the vehicle came from CEO Jim Farley, who insisted on a road version when he saw the GT3.

Ford Motor Co. is introducing the 2025 Mustang GTD, a $300,000, 800-hp powerhouse that aims to rival European supercars both on the track and in the streets. This street-legal pony car is based on the Mustang GT3 race car and boasts a range of performance features, including carbon-fiber body panels, magnesium wheels, a rear-mounted eight-speed transaxle, a semi-active suspension, and a special 5.2-liter V-8 engine.

According to Jim Baumbick, Ford’s vice president of product development operations and quality, the 2025 Mustang GTD represents the pinnacle of the breed, combining the best elements of street and racing performance.

Ford plans to produce the GTD in limited quantities starting in late 2024 or early 2025. The vehicle will be assembled at the Mustang plant in Flat Rock, Mich., and finished by Multimatic in Markham, Ontario, under a partnership agreement. The idea for the GTD came from CEO Jim Farley, who desired a road version after seeing the GT3. Ford’s objective with the GTD is to challenge top European automakers like Porsche, Aston Martin, and Mercedes in terms of performance and innovation.

The Mustang GTD is designed for optimal performance, with various aerodynamic enhancements and weight-saving measures. The trunk has been replaced with a semi-active suspension and a transaxle cooling system, while two scoops funnel air through the heat exchangers. Inside, the rear seating area has been removed to reduce weight and provide additional cargo space. The GTD is a testament to Ford’s commitment to delivering high-performance vehicles that appeal to enthusiasts.

Multiple interior color combinations and special option packages will be available for the GTD, and customers can even order the car in a custom color. Ford will implement an application process for potential buyers, similar to their approach with the previous generation GT supercar.
