Airbus Close to Record Deal with IndiGo for 500 A320 Aircrafts
Airbus is close to a potential record deal for the sale of 500 A320 narrow-body aircraft to India’s largest airline, IndiGo, industry sources said Sunday.
On the sidelines of an aviation sector meeting in Istanbul, the sources added that European aircraft manufacturer Airbus was the first candidate for an order that exceeds the largest purchase order placed by Air India, which amounted to 470 aircraft in February.
Such a deal could be worth around $50 billion, according to Airbus’ latest price list, but industry analysts say it could be less than half, given discounts offered on large orders.
Airbus and Boeing are in separate talks to win a deal to sell 25 IndiGo wide-body aircraft, sources said.
IndiGo and Airbus declined to comment.
Potential Record Deal
The aviation industry is abuzz with reports that Airbus is close to securing a potential record deal with India’s largest airline, IndiGo, for the sale of 500 A320 narrow-body aircraft. According to industry sources, the European aircraft manufacturer is the first candidate for an order that exceeds the largest purchase order placed by Air India in February, which amounted to 470 aircraft.
Industry Meeting in Istanbul
The news of the potential deal emerged on the sidelines of an aviation sector meeting in Istanbul, where industry insiders shared information about the ongoing negotiations between Airbus and IndiGo. While no official announcement has been made, the reports suggest that Airbus is the top contender for the contract.
Deal Value and Discounts
Based on Airbus’ latest price list, the potential deal could be worth around $50 billion. However, industry analysts say that the final amount could be less than half of that, given the discounts offered on large orders. The deal, if it goes through, would be a major boost for Airbus and could potentially set a new record for the largest aircraft order in history.
Boeing in the Running
While Airbus is currently the front-runner for the deal, sources also indicate that Boeing is in separate talks to sell 25 wide-body aircraft to IndiGo. This would give the airline a diversified fleet and provide Boeing with a significant contract as well.
No Comment from IndiGo or Airbus
Neither IndiGo nor Airbus have commented on the potential deal or the ongoing negotiations. However, the reports have generated significant interest in the aviation industry, with many eagerly awaiting the outcome of the negotiations.
