“Optibet” Premier League unit Jūrmala “Spartaks” will be led by Polish specialist Mareks Zubs next season, the team said on Tuesday. Last season, Zubs had planned to lead the newcomer to the Latvian championship “Tukums 2000” / TSS, but at the beginning of June the team announced that the duties of the head coach would still be entrusted to Jurģis Kalns.
In 2017, a Polish specialist helped Spartak win the Latvian championship, although he led the unit from February to July. Later he was replaced by Jozefs Vukušičs, but at the end of the season the duties of the head coach were performed by the Lithuanian Valdis Urbons. Zubs later worked for the Belarusian team Soligorsk Shakhtar, Kostanay Tabol from Kazakhstan and Vilnius Zalgiris
Zubs as a coach has been working since the early 1990s, has led many Polish teams, and has also worked as an assistant coach in the Polish national team. Since the coach’s career in 2010, Zubu has been taken outside his native Poland. At the helm of the neighboring Lithuanian team “Žalgiris” in Vilnius, he has twice won the title of Lithuanian champion, won the Lithuanian Cup three times, and once raised the Lithuanian Super Cup over his head.
The duties of the head coach are also performed in other foreign clubs. The pole has already worked in Latvia as well, when in 2017 he took the helm of Jūrmala “Spartaka” and this season he was recognized as the best coach of the Super League. “Spartaks” took the sixth place in the Latvian championship last season. The new season of the Latvian Football Super League is likely to start in the spring.
