The father stabbed the robber death after the doorbell

dad who watched robbers raid his family house through the doorbell camera rushed home and stabbed one to death the court heard.

Karl Townsend and his half brother Jamie Cunningham allegedly armed with knives after breaking warning in Him property in Hailwood. Townsend is said to have yelled at the three intruders to out of his home before stabbing Jordan Brophy in in face and head.

The accusers say one of those punches through Mr. Brophy’s eye left broken blade embedded in his brain. They claim that Townsend and Cunningham left scene, but returned shortly thereafter when Townsend was then stabbed 31-year-old in his jugular vein.

Townsend, 32, and Cunningham, 23 who Deny murder and possessing the blade both went on Trial today at Liverpool Crown Court. Richard Pratt QC, prosecutor, said: “The prosecution contends that this was not the case of householder in State of fear and panic reaction in moment of terror what he believed real danger. It was a cruel and ruthless killing, whether out of revenge or the punishment of defenseless person.”

The court heard that Townsend lived in Beechwood Avenue with his partner Amelia Rigby and their child. In the evening of 29th of October last year his girlfriend was out walking with their child and dog while he was at home parents’ house in nearby Penman Crescent where Cunningham also lived.

Mr. Pratt said Mr. Brophy was “engaged in break-in with others at Townsend home. He said property was CCTV system including the Ring doorbell, which means that if there is an event, the cameras are activated and the homeowner is notified via him or her mobile Telephone.

Townsend left his home at 18:26 in his Mercedes GLA car. About five minutes later, three cars were seen driving down Beechwood Avenue, which, according to Mr. Pratt, “looked like in convoy”.

He said one or more of these cars carried Mr. Brophy and “three unknown partners” for transportation out “resolute and apparently purposeful attack”At Townsend’s house. He said by setting home it was empty, three of they broke in through side door while the fourth waited in another Mercedes car parked nearby.

Mr Pratt said Townsend and Cunningham were “in a hurry” made them way to house after the doorbell camera alarm went off and they’re armed with big knives. He said, “As they entered, Carl Townsend could be heard yelling at the robbers to out of his house Or will he do something to them? with the knife he carries is the real word is not clearcaptured on soundtrack to video surveillance footage.

“What really happened inside house not captured by any camera. But 25 seconds after the two defendants entered the property, the robbers exited back door, and Jordan Brophy complained that he couldn’t see, and he had some of injury to his face in in region of his eye.

“Was reason he couldn’t see. Carl Townsend stabbed him twice to face and head. Knife actions were so strong they smashed them way through bones and cartilage and in one The incident severed the optic nerve and hit the brain. The stabbing action was such that the knife broke not once, but twice, leaving broken pieces of blade built-in in his skull and brain of Jordan Brophy.

Member of Mr. Brophy family cried in in public gallery, and the prosecutor continued: “Now I want to do this clear ladies and gentlemen, this is a burglary of of course a despicable crime and may cause misery topics who to come back find them homes were violated. It must be worse to find criminals so far in in house.

“But it can’t begin to justify this level of brutal violence. But what’s worse, even after he punched Jordan Brophy with such force how to leave it with only remnants of broken knife in Karl Townsend didn’t finish his hand.”

The court heard him and his half brother went out of the front door and drove off, and Mr. Brophy’s accomplices went to get their car. Mr. Pratt said Mr. Brophy could still move and other robbers tried to get it back in their vehicle, he separated and “apparently lay low and tried to hide” before “saw chance break cover” and ran out on the street.

Mr Pratt said the prosecution argued that Townsend had a knife. in his hand is the same knife he used to stab Mr. Brophy earlier – and what the neighbor took for a blow was a prick, one of which penetrated about 4.5 cm into Mr Brophy’s neck and jugular vein, causing “catastrophic blood loss”.

He said: “According to the pathologist who blown away out in post- autopsy, Jordan Brophy would have died in time from traumatic brain injuries received inside the house one into the jugular vein killed him almost instantly.

Mr. Pratt said the prosecution’s case was that Townsend caused Mr. Brophy death adding: “What we understand is not in dispute.” However, he said that Cunningham “also has a responsibility”.

QC said armed with Cunningham’s knife went with his half brother to house, left in home then returned after learning that Mr. Brophy had been wounded in in the head then stayed outside with Townsend while they both left scene. He said Mr. Brophy’s blood was later found on his clothes.

Mr Pratt claimed that Cunningham “clearly and deliberately assisted and encouraged” him half brother meaning that he either kill Mr Brophy or cause he is really harmed.
