Saina box office day 3: Parineeti Chopra’s biopic on Saina Nehwal completes a horrible 1st weekend

After a disastrous opening, Saina registered almost next-to-nothing growth over the weekend, ending its first weekend on a horror note at the box office. The Parineeti Chopra starrer brought in a paltry Rs. 0.28 lakh nett on day 3, Sunday, taking its first weekend box office collection to a dismal Rs. 0.73 lakh nett. The writing was on the wall for the Saina Nehwal biopic after its opening day itself, and post the day two numbers, the trade understood that the film is truly dead and buried, and now, it’s only a matter of the formalities being completed. Saina day-wise breakup:
Day 1 (Friday): Rs. 25 lakh nett
Day 2 (Saturday): Rs. 30 lakh nett
Day 3 (Sunday): Rs. 28 lakh nett
Total (1st Weekend): Rs. 73 lakh nett

Sure, there’s the second COVID-19 wave in progress, leading to a surge in infected cases, reinforced lockdowns across several key territories in North India and night curfews in many areas, but taking all that into consideration, Saina has still collected way less than what it should have at the box office to be deemed a reasonable grosser in cinema halls like Roohi was a couple of weeks ago. Even considering how the last week has been affected much worse by the coronavirus pandemic, Mumbai Saga has still collected more than Saina on its tenth day and let’s not even get into how Godzilla vs. Kong is holding its head above water in the North belt, leave alone how it’s making merry down South. Given how Saina has massively underperformed at the box-office even after factoring in the renewed COVID-19 restrictions, we don’t see the Amole Gupte directorial folding beyond Rs. 1.50 crore nett at the most, and probably would not have collected more than Rs. 10-12 crore nett even if it had release under normal circumstances.
