New rules: From March 1st there will be gambling apps in the Play Store

Google will soon also allow apps such as casinos or lotteries that are played for real money in German Play Store. This will expand the range from four to 15 countries around the world.

So far, three European countries have already participated: Great Britain, Ireland and France. Outside of Europe, Google only offered gambling apps in Brazil. Now the app store operator is expanding its 18+ range to 15 other countries, including its own home country, the USA, but also Germany. That was first reported by 9to5Google.

Google brings 18+ offers to Germany

From March 1st, apps are allowed that allow the use of real money, such as those of online casinos with their wide range of offers from roulette to poker. Even pure lotteries or betting apps become socially acceptable.

Google promises to subject these types of apps to a more detailed examination, and the rules are not uniform across all countries, but also differ on the basis of national laws. Consumer advocates are just as unhappy as youth advocates. At least the latter, Google wants to meet with strict protection mechanisms.

Google recognizes reality

Of course, Google’s move can be criticized from various angles. However, it can also result in the use of gambling apps becoming more secure. After all, people interested in such apps have not had to do without them. Instead, you download the relevant apps as APKs for installation from an unknown source on the Internet. Very few users know how to behave with this approach in such a way that they expose themselves to the lowest possible risk. In this respect, Google only recognizes the realities and subjects the apps to the Play Store security checks.

The app providers must show the necessary licenses. Funds may not be collected via the in-app function of the Play Services.
