Continental Hockey League (KHL) club Salava Yulaev in Ufa owed the league almost one million euros for exceeding the salary ceiling last season, reports Media Business Online .

2019/2020. In the 2006 season, KHL operated a salary ceiling of 800 million rubles (about nine million euros). Teams also had the opportunity to spend more money on players’ salaries, however, paying another 30% of the “violation” amount to the league – the so-called luxury tax.

Several clubs used this opportunity and also paid in good faith to the league for non-inclusion below 800 million rubles. However, two units, Moscow’s CSKA and Salavat Yulaev, have not yet settled with the league. Earlier, KHL President Alexei Morozov mentioned that teams will have to do it, but there is no set deadline.

Morozov also revealed that the Ufa Club paid part of the debt without specifying how much the league had received from Salavat Yulaev. According to the information available to Sport Business Online, the total debt of the Ufa unit was 89 million rubles or one million euros.

Since 2020/2021. There is a strict salary ceiling of 900 million rubles (10.1 million euros) in the 2006 season league, which amount must not be exceeded. KHL has also introduced a salary floor of 270 million rubles (3.03 million euros). In the next season, this amount will be increased to 315 million rubles (3.53 million euros).
