Tamas Kato, an inspector of the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA) team, is convinced that Latvian basketball player Kristaps Porziņģis is capable of throwing long shots with 40 % accuracy, but statistics show that the Latvian has not progressed in this indicator during the last seasons.
Porziņģis realizes long shots this season with relatively low 29.5% accuracy, but on average in the NBA career he threw 35.6% three-point shots. This aspect has always been considered a Latvian’s strength, as he has been a fairly high-level shooter, given his height, but this season third statistics have dropped.
“The idea that Porziņģis can throw long-range shots is more threatening than his actual performance, ”writes Kato, a reviewer for The Athletic. “Only 35.6% were thrown during the career and the number has not grown. It seems to me that he has an undiscovered 40% thrower inside, which should one day be activated, but the current statistics do not lie. ”
“Given that Porziņģis is 220 centimeters tall and he throws from a great distance, the opponents’ defensive players panic, seeing him uncovered,” writes Kato. Dallas completes many attacks with long-range shots, which in the case of Mavs is not the most effective way to end attacks. If Porziņģis were used more as the only long player in “Mavs” attacks, the opponents’ defenses would be forced to protect more free spaces, which would open more opportunities Dončič to go through. ”
Porziņģis has managed to score an average of 19.7 points in seven matches this season, 8.3 rebounds and 1.7 blocks.
