Find out why the beta design of the Weedle family was changed in the development of Pokémon
As many of you know, Pokémon often undergo various design changes during development. Today we bring you one more example of this from Twitter.
It is specifically the case of the family of Weedle , which was very different originally from how we know it today. The images that you have below were shared on the official Game Freak website in 1997 and show the initial design for the evolutions of the worm.
From these designs, it is only known that their first evolution was to be called Kasanagi , which means “pupa.” It is also shared that their designs were changed for not being interesting enough. “We wanted the final evolution of Weedle to be really cool, so we ended up choosing the Beedrill design that you know today.” Share the designer Atsuko Nishida.
Here you can see it:
(2/4) Beta Stage 2 was named Kasanagi, meaning “Pupa,” which in real life is the middle stage between larvae and adult insects.
Unfortunately, Game Freak’s 1997 website didn ‘ t provide a name for Beta Stage 3 – but it appears to have been based on some sort of beetle. pic.twitter.com/OzQ2wVDWdl
