The cyber security training of the University of Óbuda is supported by Vodafone. Within the framework of the cooperation, the telecommunications company supports the cyber security engineering training of Donát Bánki’s Faculty of Mechanical and Security Engineering with three high-value, world-class high-tech cyber security tools. However, the equipment will be available for cyber security research and education at several faculties of the University.
The cooperation between the service provider and the University began in 2017, when Vodafone established a 4G laboratory at the University. The cyber security system now offered can be used by students of cyber security engineering training during their practical training, on the one hand, and to support the research of doctoral students at the other. The tools offered allow for behavioral-based detection and analysis of suspicious events in network traffic. With state-of-the-art technology that uses state-of-the-art technology, including heuristics, code and statistical analysis, emulation, and machine learning, they can detect and analyze advanced Zero Day attacks with up to 0 signatures. Their role is also to detect advanced (so-called APT) attacks that can bypass the protection of well-known and ubiquitous cyber security tools (such as firewalls, anti-virus software).
Tools provided by the University compared to traditional cyber security tools they are much more advanced, represent a high level of protection, providing information that traditional cyber defense tools cannot. This provides an opportunity to train cyber security engineers with up-to-date practical and theoretical knowledge.
Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács, Rector of the University of Óbuda, expressed his joy that they could establish a closer relationship with Vodafone Magyarország Zrt. With such an innovation of this scale. This move represents another milestone in strengthening the portfolio of both parties. Through the partnership, the University will provide the “research foothold” in the field of cybersecurity, the rector said.
He recalled that the University’s management had decided to develop cyber security research two years ago. cyber security, with the intention of becoming the flagship of the area. As a result, it places more emphasis on exploiting various research and development opportunities and further developing the field. This is why Vodafone’s high-tech cyber security device support is particularly important for the Donát Bánki Faculty of Mechanical and Security Engineering of the University of Óbuda, whose students can also benefit greatly in the future.
Dr. Anita Orbán, Deputy CEO of Vodafone Hungary’s Corporate Relations Officer, said: – The support of the University of Óbuda is extremely important to us, as it is in the interest of all of us to provide future engineers and IT professionals with world-class training. As a responsible technology company, it is also our duty and interest to pay special attention to the issue of cyber security. Nowadays, our data is our most important value, and as a telecommunications company, we handle a lot of customer data, for the protection of which we have a serious responsibility. It is important to support institutions that provide this type of training so that they can equip future professionals with the most valuable knowledge possible, as the students who graduate here will include future cyber security professionals – as well as our future colleagues – added the Deputy CEO.
Dr. Gergő J. Budai, Vice Chairman of the Board of Vodafone Magyarország Zrt. Explained: it is important for the management of the company to continue the cooperation. He emphasized the importance of the cooperation launched in 2017, when Vodafone set up a 4G laboratory at the University of Óbuda, which is a good example of a real win-win situation.
The launch of the cyber security engineering faculty is planned
According to the plans – after the accreditation processes are completed – cyber security engineering will start for the first time at the University of Óbuda in a unique way in the country. basic period, is planned to be around 100-150 people from September 2022, but lower level trainings may start earlier. There is no organized cyber security engineering training in Hungary yet. (Many universities offer cybersecurity training in the form of specializations and specializations, but engineering has not started anywhere so far.) Based on the negotiations so far, cybersecurity technician training is being started for pre-graduate (technical) students who want to continue their studies in the field. In addition, the University of Óbuda intends to support the training of technicians in several forms: by technical means, teachers, training of lecturers.
