Four million dollars labor scandal: Google underpaid women and Asian professionals

Google pays more than 5,500 employees and former job seekers. The US digital technology giant, while not acknowledging discrimination, would close the case of discriminating against Asian professionals and women in several of its centers.

The procedure was launched four years ago , after a U.S. Department of Labor investigation revealed that Google did not apply a uniform wage. OFCCP detected systemic errors during a routine inspection. According to the data, between 2014 and 2017, the giant gave less pay to its female employees than to men working in the same position. In return, it now pays $ 1.35 million to the more than 2,500 ladies employed as IT professionals.

Google strongly opposes the allegations:

We believe that everyone gets paid for their performance, not based on to see who that person is. Our company takes great care to ensure that recruitment and pay are fair and impartial.

Still, the company is willing to reach an agreement on the matter. As part of this, it will provide an additional $ 1.23 million to women and people of Asian descent (a total of 1,700 people) who have previously applied to the company but were ultimately not hired. In addition, the company will set aside $ 1.25 million for additional salary adjustments.

U.S. newspaper reports that Google has struggled with “tooth and nail” in the past. so that you do not have to provide the authorities with so much data on employee wages. Moreover, they also recalled the case of the dismissed artificial intelligence researcher Timnit Gebru, who complained to his colleagues that the company did not consider it important to employ female colleagues.

But it was not only Google that was accused of such allegations, allegedly Oracle also received a resolution from the U.S. Department of Labor back in 2017 that they systematically paid Caucasian male workers more than their counterparts in the same job. However, the court ruled that the authority could not substantiate these allegations on the merits.
