F1: Red Bull will continue to use Honda engines until 2025

Red Bull team creates company to continue using Japanese brand engines in F1

Red Bull announced this Monday that it has reached an agreement with Honda, so that its F1 team, as well as AlphaTauri, continue to use Japanese brand engines until the end of 2025.

The revealed decision comes after Honda announced in October that it will abandon F1 at the end of the 2021 season, and following the recent decision by the F1 Committee of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), to decide to freeze engine development from 2022, and until 2024.

In this way, Milton Keynes’ team created a company called Red Bull Powertrains Limited, who will be responsible for managing the new project.

“We have been discussing this issue with Honda for some time now and, following the FIA decision d and freeze the development of power units from 2022 onwards, we were finally able to agree on continuing to use Honda’s hybrid power units ” , stressed Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko in a statement.

Red Bull’s decision to create a division for managing the engines of their single seats had already been in mind for some time and leaves open the possibility that the Milton Keynes team will come to create its own engine from 2025, which Christian Horner sees as an important step.

“Honda has invested significantly in hybrid technology to ensure the supply of competitive power units to both teams. We have now started the work of bringing the engine unit division and integrating new facilities and personnel into our Technological Campus. However, we are totally focused on achieving the best possible results in what will be Honda’s last season as an official supplier of power units ” , added Red Bull team leader Christian Horner.
