KARACHI:
Professor Zulfikar Bhutta of Aga Khan University (AKU) ranked among the top 100 medical scientists in in first version of rating of the best scientists for medicine published by Research.com, one of main knowledge centers for research.
According to the statement, the rating is based on criterion considering the h-index, which indicates how prolific and influential researcher, publications and citations.
Rating team 166,880 scientists surveyed on Google Scholar and Microsoft Academic Graph, and over 65 743 profiles for discipline of medicine.

Professor Bhutta is the only one scientist from Pakistan and low and middle income people countries who made it’s in the top 100.
“How’s it going for other recent recognitions, albeit a personal recognition, this ranking reflects accomplishments of scores of young researchers and educators across world who have worked with me on problems of most marginalized and poor women and children in poor communities,” commented Professor Bhutta, who is the basis director of Centre of Superiority in Women’s and Children’s Health and Institute for Global Health and Development at AKU; and co-director of Children’s Sick Center for Global Child Health, Robert Harding Chair in Global Child Health and Policy and Senior Fellow in Hospital Child Health Assessment Program for Sick children, Toronto.

Between 1996 and 2002, Professor Bhutta and his team the university has carried out an extensive community coverage and research program in urban slums of Karachi and several rural areas of Pakistan, which then spread to many regions and provinces. of Pakistan and other low- and middle-income countries countries.
Above last for two decades he worked closely with in government of Pakistan for performance evaluation of health care approaches and innovations in real-world settings through partnership with public sector community healthcare workers.
Many of these large community cluster randomized trials led by Prof. Bhutta have yielded results that changed global policy, first of all, the conclusion is that using chlorhexidine for cord care among home births was tied with significant reduction in in risk of neonatal sepsis and death and what public sector community medical workers could successfully work with communities to reach those who are most risk and reduce prenatal mortality; and maternal morbidity.
His work was foundation of some international guidelines, including changes to the World Health Organization policy on treatment of persistent diarrhea and malnutrition with creation of Women Health Workers (LHW) as founding members of community interventions in Pakistan, South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.
His team in Pakistan and Canada actively worked on strategies to improve maternal and child health and nutrition in conflict situations and emergencies. In particular, his team works with community volunteers and medical workers in tribal areas of Pakistan to improve polio and routine immunization coverage.
At AKU, Professor Bhutta holds the title of Distinguished University Professor – highest a faculty title that the university can bestow, as well as an award of Distinction and award of Superiority in Research. He received several international awards and recognition.
He recently received the Ru for turning evidence into health impact and the John Dirks Canada Gairdner Global Health Award for outstanding achievements in global health research.
