A UN statement announced that the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, began today, Wednesday, a visit to the Saudi capital, Riyadh, where he will meet with senior Yemeni and Saudi officials and diplomats. Issued by the Office of the UN Envoy, Grundberg will meet with Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, Prime Minister Moeen Abdul Malik, Foreign Minister Ahmed bin Mubarak, Speaker of Parliament Sultan al-Barakani and representatives of Yemeni political parties.
He will also meet with senior Saudi officials. and the ambassadors of the permanent members of the Security Council to Yemen and the US Special Envoy for Yemen Tim Lenderking.
This is Mr. Grundberg’s first visit since he took up his position as UN Special Envoy on September 5, 2021.
The statement stressed the keenness of the UN envoy to communicate with Yemenis and other key stakeholders on how to find lasting solutions to the conflict and reach a comprehensive political settlement for all that ends the war and meets the aspirations of the Yemeni people.
