Donald Trump to Skip Republican Primary Debate
Trump Confirms Skipping First Republican Primary Debate
Former President Donald Trump has confirmed that he will not be participating in the first Republican primary debate on Wednesday. He hinted that he may also choose to skip future debates. Trump made this announcement on his Truth Social media platform, stating that his leading position in the Republican primary field, as indicated by polling, makes it unnecessary for him to share the debate stage with his rivals.
According to Trump, “The public knows who I am & what a successful Presidency I had.” Consequently, he believes that participating in the debates is unnecessary.
However, a source familiar with Trump’s thinking clarified that this decision only applies to the first two debates, which are associated with Fox News and Fox Business. The source did not rule out the possibility of Trump changing his mind.
The first debate, hosted by Martha MacCallum and Bret Baier of Fox News, will take place in Wisconsin. The second debate, hosted by Fox Business, is scheduled to be held at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute in Simi Valley, California, in late September.
Earlier reports from NBC News suggested that Trump had already made up his mind to skip the first debate and was considering a sit-down interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson during that time.
A total of nine candidates, including Trump, have qualified for Wednesday’s debate stage based on the requirements set by the Republican National Committee.
