Three people who know about the situation say that the Biden administration has stopped giving licenses to U.S. companies to export most goods to Huawei in China.
Several years ago, the U.S. made it hard for Huawei to export items for 5G and other technologies. However, the U.S. Department of Commerce has given licenses to some American companies to sell goods and technologies to Huawei.
A spokesperson for the Commerce Department said that officials "continuously review our policies and regulations" but that they don't talk about specific talks with companies. Huawei and Qualcomm both said they had nothing to say. Bloomberg and the Financial Times first reported the move.
Mao Ning, a spokesman for China's foreign ministry, said that China is against the United States using an overly broad idea of national security to hurt Chinese businesses unfairly.
