UK watchdog examines App Store policy

The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is investigating Apple’s App Store policies (via Games Industry).

The CMA is investigating, among other things, the ban on the implementation of their own digital stores by developers. Last year, Epic Games suddenly implemented an alternative, cheaper way to sell V-Bucks in Fortnite. That was the reason for lawsuits between Apple, Google and Epic Games.

The watchdog is also investigating the committee on microtransactions of apps and games in the App Store. As of this year, smaller companies are eligible for a 15 percent commission, to which larger companies have to give up 30 percent.

Other Coscelli, head of the CMA, says complaints about Apple’s market position, and any restrictions on competition from companies, should be taken seriously.
