Uber is developing its own electric car

Since he left our country, there has been relatively little important news about Uber, but the following indicates that the ridesharing service provider is also seriously preparing for the future. The company is working with several as-yet-unnamed automakers to develop electric vehicles, according to Green Car Reports.

Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, confirmed the news of the project in mid-January but declined to reveal which brands they are partnering with. However, he revealed that passenger models have seats that can be rotated so passengers can look at each other while driving. However, Uber is also working on developing two- and three-wheelers that are specifically designed to deliver goods and couriers.

Uber electric vehicles are expected to be slower than traditional electric vehicles as they are specifically designed for use in urban environments where speeding is not required. There are also economic reasons for this, since the development and production of such machines can be cheaper.

Uber previously saw an opportunity in British company Arrival’s electric vehicles, but the latest startup announced last summer that it was abandoning the project, which would instead focus on developing electric delivery vans.

Among other things, the transport company wants electric vehicles designed specifically for them to meet its climate goals: according to the goal, Uber wants to become a zero-emissions platform by 2040, and by 2030 at least in some priority markets. – they want to ensure that passengers are transported only by purely electric vehicles. The latter is also required by some US states: California, for example, has already required Uber and rival Lyft to replace all of its vehicles operating in the state with electric ones by 2030.

Uber is currently helping its drivers by letting them rent Tesla-type electric vehicles through car rental company Hertz. The car-rental company recently began rolling out its own electric fleet on U.S. roads, and Hertz executives are hoping some of their customers may be Uber-like drivers.
