Two British boys died while swimming in lake in Germany, authorities confirmed.
Brothers of seven and nine years old are missing. parents in a designated swimming area area on Lake Eiserbach in the south of Aachen.
According to the German newspaper Bild, emergency services were called around 18:00. on Thursday.
They were joined Technical Assistance Agency (THW) and members of German Lifeguard Association (DLRG).
Rescuers were able to retrieve children out of the water and were taken to hospitals in Aachen and Cologne, but later died.
Aachen prosecutors said they were investigating if there were deaths result of negligence.
A spokeswoman told RP Online: “We don’t focus on on anyone in in particular we just do our job.”
results of investigation is not expected until the middle of next week, she added.
Mayor of Simmerath Bernd Goffart told the German Press Agency: “It was really dramatic.
“I know of several assistants who sick today. You can’t get images out of your head.
“Many citizens spontaneously helped with search and then with in first to help for in children. Thanks to you and the emergency services.”
