TikTok Launches Subscription-Based Music Streaming Service in Australia, Mexico, and Singapore
TikTok Music Expands to Australia, Mexico, and Singapore
TikTok, the popular short video app, is introducing its subscription-based music streaming service in Australia, Mexico, and Singapore. This expansion follows the recent launch of TikTok Music in Indonesia and Brazil.
Participate in the Closed Beta Test
The company has invited users in Australia, Mexico, and Singapore to join the TikTok Music closed beta test starting today. Test participants will have the opportunity to try the service for free during a three-month trial period.
Targeting Key Markets
Mexico is TikTok’s fourth-largest market, with over 62.4 million active users aged 18 and above. The app’s largest markets are the U.S., Indonesia, and Brazil. TikTok is looking to expand its growth in markets outside the U.S., where it faces bans in certain regions.
TikTok Music Features
TikTok Music allows users to sync the music streaming service with their TikTok accounts. The new service combines the music discovery power of TikTok with a music streaming platform offering millions of tracks from various artists. Users can listen, share, and download the music they discover on TikTok and also share their favorite tracks and artists with their TikTok community.
Competition with Established Players
TikTok Music will compete against dominant music streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music in these markets. For instance, Spotify currently holds over 80% of music subscriptions in Mexico.
Continued Efforts in Music Streaming
TikTok’s announcement about the expansion of its music streaming service follows its recent licensing agreement with Warner Music Group. The company also plans to shut down its existing music streaming service, Resso, in Indonesia and Brazil, with users being encouraged to transfer their accounts to TikTok Music instead.
