Last week, the Bertelsmann Foundation identified a worsening shortage of skilled workers in Germany as part of a study. According to this, two thirds of the decision-makers surveyed in companies stated that they were currently having difficulties in finding skilled workers. Applicants should be happy about what is a problem for companies. The selection of vacancies is currently large – and that ensures that the competition for one position in some areas is lower than usual.

40 percent more vacancies than before Corona

According to the Indeed job portal, the number of open Currently represent 40 percent above pre-pandemic levels. Indeed has analyzed job profiles for the Handelsblatt that have an annual salary of at least 70,000 euros. Particular emphasis was placed on ensuring that these job advertisements on the platform received significantly less response than the average. The number of clicks on the online job advertisements was decisive for the selection.

Right at the front in the resulting ranking of well-paid but comparatively less popular positions are quite a number of tech and IT jobs. Java software developers and cloud architects can expect salaries of up to 85,000 euros. The interest of the applicants is up to 90 percent below the average. According to the analysis, key account managers and IT project managers can expect a roughly six-figure salary and at the same time comparatively little interest.

Corona crisis fuels search for IT experts: inside

According to Annina Hering, labor market expert at Indeed Hiring Lab, the positive situation for job seekers in the tech sector is particularly related to the corona pandemic. During this time, the “importance and future viability of digital business models were clearly underpinned”. “So it is not surprising that job seekers with relevant IT qualifications have to fear the least competition for new positions in comparison”, quotes the Handelsblatt Hering.

It works the other way around. Data scientists, for example, can expect a median salary of 75,000 to 80,000 euros. According to Indeed, the interest in relevant job advertisements is 91 percent above average.
