The Ministry of the Interior terminates the contract with the border service with P&O Ferries after mass layoffs | P&O ferries

The ministers canceled the contract with P&O Ferries after laying off almost 800 sailors without warning in March.

Home Office announced that agreement with The Border Troops Agency will come to an end with “instant effect”.

He follows the Department for Transport wrapping up deal with P&O Ferries after review in light of mass layoffs.

A Home Office spokesman said: “In response to the unacceptable behavior of P&O Ferries, the Border Force terminated its agreement. with P&O to provide emergency travel to nearby ports with instant effect”.

Grant Shapps, transport secretary tweeted: “We have closed the UK Border Force. one-of- good deal with company.

“We are reforming maritime law so that companies do not exploit legal loopholes and protect workers’ rights.”

The ferry firm was widely condemned after laying off 786 employees without any notice. on March 17, replacing them with cheaper agency workers. Politicians and trade the unions said decision put safety of ships in risk.

P&O Ferries were detained by the Maritime and Coast Guard Agency (MCA) over safety fears, including liners, which are usually run between Dover and Calais, and from Larne to Cairnryan.

The firm suspended cross-channel services in in aftermath of layoffs, including over Easter. Shapps told MPs that Hebblethwaite would “have to go”, but government haven’t worn yet out in financial the fines he had originally threatened.

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) wrote to the Insolvency Service, which bears out criminal and civil investigations against the company, stating that its directors should be disqualified.

However, Hebblethwaite stated at an industry conference. in May: “We didn’t behave on day or since in anything like in way it was suggested of Me and us”.
