Square Enix is temporarily pulling Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver from Steam

Square Enix has temporarily pulled Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver from Steam.

The classic game still has a Steam page, but it says that the game is temporarily not for sale. The company is reportedly working on “some important updates”. It is not known exactly what these updates entail. The game is still available for purchase on GOG.

Soul Reaver was released in 1999 and was the second game in the Legacy of Kain series. The 3D action game takes players on a journey with the vampire Raziel to his creator Kain to kill him. The game was developed by Crystal Dynamics and directed by Amy Hennig before joining Naughty Dog on the Uncharted series.

Several attempts were made to revive the franchise, without success. For example, Climax Studios worked on a reboot called Legacy of Kan: Dead Sun. Square Enix canceled the project in 2012. Rocket League studio Psyonix worked on Nosgoth, a multiplayer game based on the franchise, which was canceled in 2016.
