Shujaat ousted as Q League leader as speculation of PTI merger swirls

LAHORE: general advice of Pakistan Muslim League-Quade (PML-Q) on Thursday removed former prime minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain as party chief, against the backdrop of emerging disagreements in his ranks.

His brother Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain, who together with his cousin and former chief of Punjab minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi in union with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of Imran Khan was chosen as new party president, and Kamil Ali Agha was elected central secretary-general.

event comes a few days after Shujaat, then President of PML-Q, Suspended basic membership of Elahi, in response to the last statement possible merger with opposition PTI.

AND show-cause the notice handed to Elahi mentioned that the President of PML-Q had called an emergency meeting of in senior leaders, where it was noted that the president of the province did not have the authority to unite party with PTI.

Statement went on say that PML-Q, as a political party, retains its individuality, vote bank, party discipline and rules and the rules that Elahi broke with his statements.

The notice required an explanation from Elahi within seven days or action would be taken. against him under party articles 16 and 50 of the Constitution.

decision to issue a show-cause Elahi’s notice was made at a high level party meeting, which was attended by Tariq Bashir Chima, then secretary-general Chaudhry Salik Hussain, senior Vice President, and Chaudhry Shafai Hussain, senior leader.
