Shooting in downtown charleston leaves 5 people injured, police say

The officers responded to area of King Street and Morris Street around 00:55 a.m. due to gunshots, the Charleston Police Department said. in a news release.

All five are being treated in hospitals. for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, Sgt. Elizabeth Wolfsen said in statement to CNN.

Two people those arrested were charged with firearms violations, according to the statement.

Wolfsen corrected an earlier police statement that said six people were injured in shooting.

“Six people they were initially thought to have been wounded by gunfire, but it has since been determined that one of those received an abrasion after the fall, and not a gunshot wound, ”the message says.

The shooting is under investigation, officials said.
