A person who died, possibly shot dead by an officer after “there was an exchange of shootout between at least 2-3 people in and around vehicleat the Mississippi Mudbug Festival, Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones said.
Several law enforcement officers from different departments worked at the scene. event and responded when shots were fired around 10 p.m., the sheriff said.
“We believe one of law enforcement personnel unloaded his weapon and we believe the victim’s death at this time may have been due to a shooting involving an officer,” Jones said during news conference.
“We believe that the deceased person actively participated in a shooting incident was reported and several shots were fired,” he said. added.
Jones declined to identify the officer involved or his affiliated agency. He said the Mississippi Bureau of The investigation was called in to help with investigation.
After firing at least two people were detained for interrogation, Jones said.
