SC expresses displeasure over govt’s failure to appointment AGP

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court on Monday expressed dissatisfaction over federal governments failure appoint new advocate general.

During the hearing, Judge Qazi Faiz Isa asked:who this is AGP in country at the moment? and wondered if government was so “incompetent” that he could not appoint new AGP.

Having received no satisfactory response from the Deputy AG, Judge Isa stated that the Deputy AG was “acting as if the court had asked a very difficult constitutional question.”

“It government negotiation with anyone on appointment of advocate general? Judge Isa asked, adding that the high court had 5,500 lawyers, but government can not pick one.

Justice Isa also said that government “violates the Constitution by not appointing an AG.”

During the trial, the Court of Appeal also noted that orders of The CSs were not followed, adding that the complementary and replacement AG are only required to receive instructions from the AG.

Judge Isa further stated that this against law for MP and additional AG to stand trial without indication of AGP.

The Supreme Court’s comments came after Mansur Usman Avan refused to become a judge. new AGP due to “inevitable professional obligations”.
