Satoshi Nakamoto, the anonymous creator of Bitcoin, already has a public statue in tribute to his contributions, inaugurated today August 16 in the city of Budapest, Hungary.
The statue represents the inventor of Bitcoin, who never revealed his true identity , and disappeared from public life in April 2011, which is one of the great mysteries in the history of cryptocurrency.
“The goal of the statue is to honor Satoshi Nakamoto, whose work we believe deserves to be remembered,” says the project organization of the statue on its website.
The face of the statue is made of bronze, which due to its reflective surface allows viewers to see their faces on the sculpture, which would express that « We are all Satoshi ».
The monument is located in the Graphisoft Park, a business park with spacious green areas and various technology companies, north of Budapest.
Today at noon today a crowd of Bitcoin enthusiasts and onlookers surrounded the bust of Satoshi Nakamoto in Budapest. In the same park there is also a statue dedicated to Steve Jobs, founder of Apple, unveiled in 2011.
The journalist Andras Györfi, who runs a local media specialized in cryptocurrencies, is the mind behind the idea of the statue, we reported in CriptoNoticias in May 2021, when the plans to raise the statue were known.
«Represents Satoshi. Of course, we don’t know what he looked like, but this statue has a stylized face made of reflective bronze and aluminum … if you go to the statue, look at his face and you will see your own face, “Gyorfi told CGTN during the inauguration.
Gyorfi said he believed that Satoshi never revealed his true identity so that B itcoin was never linked to a person , “and that can be sustained as a decentralized system where no group or person has control,” he said. .
The creation of the Satoshi Nakamoto statue was financed by Hungarian cryptocurrency companies, and supported by members of that community, during the last 6 months. The sculptors are Tamas Gilly and Reka Gergely.
This has not been the only tribute paid to Satoshi Nakamoto, although it is the first public statue in the world. As reported by CriptoNoticias, last April 2021, the House of Representatives of the state of Louisiana, in the US, recognized the contributions in economics left by the creator of Bitcoin.
