Sakurai Not Ruling Out Another Smash Bros. Game

Masahiro Sakurai, the director of the Super Smash Bros. games, doesn’t rule out the possibility of a new Smash Bros. game one day.
He says so in an interview with the Japanese magazine Famitsu, which was translated by VGC. “I’m not thinking about a sequel, but I can’t say for sure that this will be the last Smash Bros. game.”

He continues: “I have to think about whether we should release a Smash Bros. game and thereby create the possibility of disappointing players.” According to Sakurai, never again can a Smash Bros. game have such a large roster of playable characters as the most recent entry in the series, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. That game’s already hefty roster was expanded with two additional seasons of new characters.

Later in the interview, Sakurai reports: “I can’t imagine that Smash Bros. can be made without me. But if I’m being honest, I’d like someone else to do it. I tried that once, but it didn’t work. If we continue with the series, Nintendo and I should take a serious look how we can make it a success.”
