Ramzan Sugar Mills case: Shehbaz granted permanent exemption from court appearance – Pakistan

LAHORE: Court of Accounts in Lahore on Monday granted a permanent exemption from personal presence to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. in Case of Ramzan Sugar Mills.

The court granted a motion filed by Prime Minister Shehbaz, who prayed for permanent exemption from attendance in Link Ramzan Sugar Factories. Earlier, Shahbaz Sharif’s lawyer concluded his arguments regarding the permanent exemption of the prime minister from personal attendance at the hearings. Shehbaz’s lawyer pleaded with the court allow Representative of the Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz will arrive in court in his place.

Prime Minister Shehbaz, addressing the court, said that my schedule regarding national duties are not hidden and if my plea will be rejected: “I will keep on stand before the court.”

The Prime Minister said he approved the application of taxes on sugar mills and his son sugar mills also incurred loss of 2.5 billion rupees.

NABU prosecutor opposed Prime Minister’s statement of exemption from permanent presence at the court session. He said that Shehbaz Sharif’s lawyer did not give any good reasons why he could be granted an exemption from participating in the hearings.

He also said that Shehbaz’s medical certificate was also not represented with Appendix. It is pertinent to mention that the Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz also filed an application for exemption from personal appearance due to budget engagements.
