Protest against alleged abduction, forced conversion of Sikh woman continues for 2nd day in KP – Pakistan

Members of Sikh community protested for a second day on Sunday in Buner district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa against alleged kidnapping of a Sikh woman, forced conversion and marriage to a Muslim man.

He said lady family members, along with with Another community members gathered in front of Pir Baba Police Station on Saturday – in outside of which the incident occurred – and demanded that the police register first information report (FIR) of alleged incident, but the police refused to do so.

“When the police showed reluctance to register FIR, family staged a protest outside police station,” he said, adding that the police subsequently assured them of find the missing woman.

Sikh today community again went to the police who informed them that she had recovered and married her neighbor, a Muslim, in court.

“She was engaged and her marriage was planned for next month,” Singh said, claiming she was forcibly converted to Islam and married off.

Another Sikh community leader Radash Singh Toni claimed that the woman was kidnapped, forcibly converted to Christianity and married. off but the police were playing in role of “silent spectator”

He said that when community members met district police officer on Saturday night he assured them that Kumari would be handed over over to familybut on Sunday, the police misbehaved with in family members and did not give her over or file their report.

Tony demanded that government reunite Kumari with family.

Meanwhile, Buner DPO Abdur Rashid dismissed the family’s allegation while speaking with Dawn.comstating that the police found the woman and took her to the justice of the peace. in local court of session, where she recorded her statement confirming in court that she converted to Islam and got married of voluntarily and submitted the relevant documents.

He added that the court asked the police move hand her over to Darul Aman and keep her safe.
