Non-fungible tokens (NFT) continue to arrive in unexpected places and are also turned into a vehicle to contribute to charitable causes.
The German news agency Deutsche Welle (DW) announced that will auction a digital collectible on the Ethereum-based platform, Foundation.app.
The NFT auction will start next November 16 and will be available for 24 hours. Those interested in contributing may purchase it only with ether (ETH).
DW’s objective with the NFT is to have “a gesture of solidarity” with all journalists in the world, he explained in a statement.
So far in 2021, there are 334 journalists in prison around the world . The same is true for 126 bloggers, community reporters, and media workers. This is reported by Reporters Without Borders, the organization that will receive the proceeds from the auction.
Freedom of the press in 30 languages
The NFT called PressFreedomX30 (DW 2021), grants access to a animated video of several seconds that «celebrates the freedom of press in 30 languages ». A journalist with a microphone appears on the collectible, while the words “freedom” and “press” are read in several languages.
Deutsche Welle, which has been broadcasting since 1992, considers that it is an «opportunity» to know better the “exciting” development of NFTs. They even compare it with the first test sale that Ebay made in 1995 or with the driving of Tesla’s first electric vehicle in 2008.
The token was designed by the German illustrator Marc Löricke , whose work is characterized by hand-drawn strokes.
Other media have joined the NFTs
So far this year, NFTs have gained great popularity in various sectors, one of those that have taken advantage of this boom, apart from DW, has been TIME magazine and Rolling Stone.
In the case of TIME, the first general information weekly in the history of the United States, CriptoNoticias reported that launched three tokens, alluding to “incredibly prophetic” covers .
For its part, Rolling Stone magazine also launched some covers for sale as collectibles in digital format and 2,500 paper magazines . They feature the famous Bored Ape Yacht Club, one of the NFT collections that generates the highest volume of trade in the market.
