President rejects PM’s advice to remove Punjab governor

ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi conveyed to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, which can not be the Governor of the Punjab removed without his approval.

Referring to paragraph 3 of Article 101 of of the Constitution, President Alvi stated that “the governor shall conduct office during the pleasure of the president”.

He wrote that the incumbent governor could not be removed since there were no charges of misconduct or conviction by any court of law or of any act done by him contrary to the Constitution of Pakistan. He stated that it was his duty like a head of The state represents unity of Islamic Republic of Pakistan in terms of Article 41 of Constitution.

emphasizing the constitutional role of governor of Punjab, President Alwi said the governor also sent an earlier accident report in Punjab Assembly, questions regarding reality of resignation of Chief Minister Punjab, Sardar Usman, Ahmed Khan Buzdar and displacement of loyalty. Rejection of advice of Prime Minister, the President stated that he was convinced that the removal of The governor would be unfair and against norms of justice.

The President stressed that it is necessary that the incumbent governor should continue to stay to encourage and promote a healthy and clean democratic system when members are not coerced or bribed into an unlawful change, and section 63A of The constitution does not specifically encourage such activities.

The President also stressed that he was ready to comply with the provisions of Constitution of Pakistan in these difficult times and flatly rejected the advice of prime minister to remove the governor of the Punjab.
