Pokémon comes to Ethereum with the launch of a series of non-fungible tokens (NFT) in the name of Logan Paul, famous youtuber who will auction 36 boxes of the first edition of cards of the game of the Japanese franchise.
Logan Paul , social media personality and American boxer uploaded a video claiming that he had purchased $ 2 million worth of physical Pokémon cards. Paul started his career on the social network Vine, but now he has a YouTube channel with almost 23 million subscribers,
The letters belong to the first collection of Booster Packs of Pokémon, released in 1999 , being highly valued collectible rarities in the global market .
Paul will be auctioning the boxes until next February 11, and will open them on February 27 in a live event for the 25th anniversary of Pokémon. Each set starts trading at USD 10,000 and could potentially bring surprises inside. On one occasion, a card from the pokémon Charizard sold for more than $ 660,000, on the same site where Logan Paul’s auction is held, Goldin Auctions.
Also, through Maverick , the clothing line of the youtuber, the company Bondly Finance will mint 44 collectible tokens for sale, Bondly said in a statement.
For each of the 36 boxes of Pokémon cards, buyers will be able to claim 1 non-fungible token minted on the Ethereum network. The remaining 8 tokens will be sold separately. According to Bondly, the collection will have an illustration of Logan Paul made in the graphic style of Pokémon, a world-famous animated series. So far the address of the tokens is unknown, information yet to be disclosed.
The NFTs will be available in Logan Paul’s online store, operated by Bondly and the asset exchange platform of Ethereum, BondSwap. Details will be released on when the tokens will be available for sale soon, Bondly Finance says, to give Logan Paul time to attend his fight against boxer Floyd Mayweather on February 20.
Trading in collectible non-fungible tokens is one of the emerging markets in Ethereum, drawing the attention of celebrities such as Soulja Boy and investor Mark Cuban, who launched their NFTs during this month of January.
