PML-N denounces ‘dual standards of justice’

senior managers of ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) expressed disappointment at Wednesday’s hearing of case of contempt against former prime minister and Pakistani Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan. bench of Islamabad High Court (IHC).

Maryam Nawaz in her tweet denounced what she called “dual standards of justice’ as she referred to the deletion of former prime minister and PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif of office and his removal from office as a member of the National Assembly on Supreme Court ruling.

She said the “relaxation” granted to Imran “only proved” to the nation that “injustice” had been committed against Nawaz and party. “Double standard of justice unacceptable,” she said. She sarcastically stated that the punishment of contempt should be awarded over Judge Chaudhry, who “insulted” Imran by filing justice.

Similar reactions came from two federal ministers, Justice Minister Tarar and Information Minister Aurangzeb. They are also mentioned that PML-N leaders and legislators in in past did not give any indulgences when they faced contempt proceedings.

Tarar said at a press conference in Islamabad that PML-N leaders Talal Chaudhry, Daniyal Aziz and Nihal Hashmi were convicted not only in contempt of court cases in 2017-18 but they also lost their collection membership. “Nikhal Hashmi even faced jail,” he added.

Tarar also submitted to the Supreme Court in 2012 saying what then elected prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, was not only removed from office in contempt of court case, but he was also disqualified as a member of parliament.

He also indicated out that the then member of the National Assembly, Wasim Sheikh, together with some lawyers and ordinary citizens, not only were indicted in case of terrorism and thrown in jail just for beating in the chest during a protest in rally, but they were punished for contempt of trial and disqualified.

However, in the case of Imran, he continued, “as a lawyer, I feel a little strange that in happening of serious contempt of court in that more bench was drawn up, the court showed leniency and gave him [Imran] another opportunity to enter another reply so he can find way”.

Tarar said that in in history of Pakistan when the court took up disrespect deed and contemnor had no shame of what he did was rather insist that he did it and was right in his opinion, it is unlikely that this person was ever allowed off court without punishment.

“I get the impression that Imran Khan is the favorite of some circles, minister told reporters. “In order to dispel this impression, it is important to keep the spirit of Article 25 of Constitution, which deals with “equality before the law” and “equal protection of law”.

Tarar stressed that the implementation of laws in in true meaning was in interest and survival of state. “We are very sad and hard. Talk about gender equality in our society and use of such language about women never endured should do not reconcile.

Aurangzeb also applies to cases of PML-N leaders Daniyal Aziz, Talal Chaudhry and Nihal Hashmi in a series of tweets. She said that if Imran’s relaxation was right, then past decisions should fix by adding what if past decisions they were right then rules should apply now.

“If today decision right, then past sentences [in the contempt of court cases] should also fix and if these [the past ones] were right then justice should to be seen in the real deal, Aurangzeb added.
