PM increases flood emergency assistance under BISP up to Rs 70 billion

KAMBAR SHAHDADKOT:

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday announced increase in flood emergency assistance under the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) from 28 to 70 billion rupees.

During his visit to Kamber Shahadkot to oversee rescue operations. in Sindh, said the Prime Minister during a conversation with media that he decided to increase amount due to surge in number of families displaced in disaster.

He left on say that this level of destruction never happened in provinces.

He praised the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) administration and its efforts. for rehabilitation and relief for in people of Sind.

“Everyone works extremely hard, however challenges immeasurable and resources scarce,” he said.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Chief Minister Sind Murad Ali Shah and attended the damage briefing caused floods in provinces.

In his speech, he praised the “transparency and organization way” with which bisp – started late former prime minister Benazir Bhutto – conducts relief operations for in flood- affected families.

“We also plans to use the grant announced for each province through help of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA),” he said. added.

“Destruction and devastation all around, with all cultures destroyed. Nothing left”, he said, adding that “Sindh is the worst hit province, then Balochistan, then KP [Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa]Northern Punjab and other regions”.

He stated that through joint efforts national level were need of an hour to ease the suffering of in flood-affected people.

The prime minister supported this provision of shelter for the displaced was badly needed along with mosquito nets adding that government placed an order for in purchase of seven million tents and mosquito kits will be distributed soon.
