PEMRA bans live speeches of Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) imposed a ban on broadcasting live speeches of former prime minister and Pakistani Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan on all TV channels with immediate effect, reported by ARY News. on Sunday.

PEMRA in its press release states: “It was observed that Imran Khan, Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, in his speeches/statements are constantly blaming state institutions, making baseless accusations and spreading hate speech through his provocative statements. against state institutions and officials, which is detrimental to maintenance of law and order and may violate public peace and tranquility.”

“The competent authority, i.e. PEMRA Chairman in view of the aforementioned prerequisites and reasons, in an exercise of delegated authority of power vested in in Section 27(a) of The PEMRA Ordinance 2002, as amended by the PEMRA (Amendment) Act 2007, hereby prohibits broadcast of live speech of Mr. Imran Khan on all satellite TV channels with instant effect”, – he said.

What did Imran Khan say?

During a speech at a protest rally in Islamabad on Imran Khan warned IG and DIG on Saturday of Islamabad police, saying they will not spare them and will register the case against them for “torment” party leader Shahbaz Gill during physical detention.

He also called out Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Zeba Chaudhry for police request approval of physical confinement, despite knowing that Gill was being “tortured”. “We won’t leave you [Zeba] and will also Institute proceedings against her.”
