Pakistan has strengthened ties with major powers using diplomatic tools: FM

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Thursday said using various diplomat tools Pakistan has consolidated friendships and strengthened bilateral relations with major powers e key partner in all regions.

The foreigner minister while addressing a ceremony at the Institute of Political Studies (NIPS) of National University of Science and technology, said under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan, Pakistan has promoted in proactively and consistently its diplomatic objectives both bilaterally and multilaterally.

“We got to use various tools of diplomacy that is economic diplomacy, science diplomacy, public diplomacy or digital diplomacy, a lead the defence for pace durable, inclusive growth and shared developmentHe noted.

Said the term like “Multidimensional diplomacy” is reflexive of new trends and reality in how much there are multiple players, factors and forces, which influence its conduct of diplomacy.

Multidimensional diplomacy said currently using tools ranging from economycibernetic space, digital technology, science and innovation to culture and also people-to-people connections.

Said the world entered the era of battles of narratives with a huge change in the role of media and their impact on the whole sphere of life and modern technology used to influence opinions and push agendas.

Furthermore, as another external factor, the COVID-19 pandemic has overturned the global economic systems.

“We see that COVID-19 is not just a global health crisis but catalyst for long-term geopolitical changes. COVID vaccines have also helped diplomacy with countries to compete for flu through their vaccines and related technology,” he added.

Qureshi said in background of those changing trends, geopolitics is reorienting to adapt new emerging actors and factors and considerations, adding that Pakistan is foreign policy must respond adequately.

He said Pakistan is a leading voice in multilateral forums with strong defense on problems of sustainable and equitable development climate change, debt relief, corruption and wrongdoing financial flows as well as Islamopobia.

Referring to the situation in Afghanistan, he said at the meeting post-15 August 2021, Pakistan has oriented its diplomacy for regional collection e international consent for constructive and lasting commitment with the new provisional authorities in Afghanistan to avert a humanitarian catastrophe and an economic meltdown.

He also highlighted Pakistan’s effort, including the establishment of the six- Country format of immediate neighbors, participation in Moscow format, Troika Plus Meeting was held in Islamabad and above all the extraordinary session of the OIC Board of Foreign Ministers hosted from Pakistan in December 2021.

He said economic diplomacy took over higher priority in the conduct of Foreigners of Pakistan policy.
