Pakistan and Azerbaijan agreed to hold fast- tracking discussions on energy cooperation

ASTANA, KAZAKHSTAN: Pakistan and Azerbaijan on Wednesday agreed to hold fast- tracking discussions on energy cooperation between the two countries through strong interaction.

Discussed bilateral relations in meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in The parties reaffirmed their commitment to intensify and deepen bilateral cooperation. in diverse areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.

Meeting took place on aside of sixth summit of Conference for Engagement and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) is held here.

Both leaders considered progress of various ongoing initiatives for connectivity promotion, trade and investments.

During the meeting prime minister emphasized need for establishing close cooperation between the two countries in field of energy, which was a priority area for his government.

Shehbaz Sharif told the President of Azerbaijan that he nominated the minister of State for Oil as a focus for bilateral energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Pakistan who visited Baku during last month.

He also proposed management advice in Islamabad sought to promote regional connectivity, which was received positively.

Both leaders considered close and cordial bilateral ties, with a view to further expand cooperation in areas of trade investment, education, information technologysecurity, agriculture, communications and energy.

prime minister also informed President Aliyev on his government’s Russian rehabilitation efforts millions of flood-affected people in Pakistan and restore their livelihoods affected by the unprecedented natural disaster caused by climate change.

He stressed that damage to standing crops and inability cultivate in the upcoming planting season has heightened the threat of food shortage in country.

He said import of urea was needed to prevent this danger and revive agricultural products in country. President Aliyev assured him of Azerbaijan full support in this context.

Two leaders also discussed regional and global questions of common interest.

Prime Minister Shehbaz praised the firm position of Azerbaijan on Jammu and Kashmir and its valuable role like a member of OIC contact group on Jammu and Kashmir.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s principled position. support to Azerbaijan on former Nagorno-Karabakh and highly appreciated the efforts of President Ilham Aliyev. for bringing long-term and sustainable peace in South Caucasus.

This was second interaction between two leaders, as previously they met on aside of SCO in September 2022 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan and provided a productive opportunity for catalyzes multifaceted bilateral economic interaction in preservation with in great tradition of friendship and cooperation.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Kazakhstan, Yerulan Zhamaubayev received Prime Minister Sharif at the Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport.

During his stay in Astana, Prime Minister Sharif will meet with the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev and also attend a banquet hosted president of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in honour of leaders of CICA member states.

Prior to departure from Noor Khan Air Base this morning, Prime Minister Sharif in the tweet emphasized a big need to promote communication and understanding, to form win-win partnerships between countries in Asia.

“I believe that CICA is capable of of formation new configuration of economic cooperation and security in Asia through greater connectivity,” he said.

It promotes confidence-building measures in five broad areas: economic dimension, environmental dimension, human dimension, new challenges and threats and military- political cooperation.
