New Tropical Storm Earl hits 40 mph

New name Tropical Storm Earl formed. in Atlantic Ocean, with National Hurricane Center on Sunday recommends residents in northern Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico follow storm progress.

At its 11 am update, the hurricane center said that Tropical Storm Earl is wriggling north of Virgin Islands. Heavy rains and flooding are expected to affect the northern Leeward Islands, the US and British Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

The storm was about 75 miles from north of northern St. Thomas and was moving west-northwest at about 8 miles per hour, with maximum steady winds of 50 mph.

“Turn to the northwest with additional decrease in forward speed expected from Sunday to Monday,” NHC forecasters said. ‘On the track forecast center of Earl is expected pass just north of northern Leeward Islands today, and north of Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico tonight and Sunday.”

Forecast models call for Earl will deviate from the US and the storm is not expected to pose a threat. for Florida.

“Slow strengthening possible during next a few days,” the NHC said in a statement.
