Nakvi warns of harsh response to future “Attacks” PTI on police

– Intermediate government creates JIT to investigate violent clashes between police and supporters of Imran Khan

LAHORE: caretaker government of Mohsin Naqvi in Punjab organized a joint investigation team (JIT) to investigate alleged torture of police personnel on hands of Supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Lahore over V past a week.

Announcement decision in press conference on Monday, Interim minister also warned the opposition party of former prime minister Imran Khan that any “future mistreatment” of law enforcement officials will met with “equivalent response”.

Clashes broke out when Islamabad police tried to arrest Khan at his residence Zaman Park in Lahore in connection with The case of Toshakhana. PTI supporters opposed the arrest as a result in several injured among the police personnel.

Another clash erupted on The Saturday when law enforcement raided Khan’s house house in his absence. Clashes between PTI workers reported with police, trying to prevent them from entering house.

Naqvi expressed concern over “cruel treatment” of law enforcement officials and warned that the police would now respond to any mistreatment in a similar manner. He also noted that the police were unable to comply with court orders because of their inability enter house.

Naqvi also criticized Khan’s “behavior” and threatened to withdraw the guards government provided he continues to verbally abuse the police personnel. He said the police can’t protect someone who mistreated them and expected the same force for their protection.

He also said he gave full powers to Provincial Police Chief Usman Anwar to do as he sees fit and that no political party reacted as aggressively as PTI did during its protest.

Naqvi also assured the police that legal action would be taken if necessary and warned that anyone recourse to violence would face harsh answer. He announced that caretaker government write a letter to the election commission of Pakistan (ECP) on this issue.

In addition, Naqvi announced compensation for injured policeman personnel, with 100,000 rupees for minor injuries and Rs 500,000 for major injuries.
