Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s First Interview in the Metaverse
Introduction
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg gave his first interview in Metaverse using High quality coding renders.
Virtual Reality Development
In a recent interview with Lex Friedman, a computer scientist and podcast host, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg demonstrated the photorealistic capabilities of avatars for coding. This research project, known as Avatars for Coding, has been under development by Meta since 2019.
Communication in the Virtual Space
During the interview, Friedman and Zuckerberg used Meta Quest Pro VR Headset to communicate with each other in a virtual space. They both had realistic 3D avatars of themselves, showcasing the advancements in virtual reality technology.
Codec Avatars
Codec Avatars are powered by neural networks that generate 3D image models using over 170 cameras. This technology allows for accurate representation of facial expressions and movements.
Digitization Process
While the avatars provide a realistic representation, users still need to go through the process of digitization, also known as photogrammetry. This involves capturing, measuring, and interpreting photographs of physical objects.
Machine Learning and Facial Expressions
Friedman acknowledged that the 3D avatar accurately reflected Zuckerberg’s facial expressions, thanks to the use of machine learning. However, it remains unclear when these technologies will reach mass adoption.
New Generation Meta Quest Headset
The interview came shortly after Meta revealed their third generation of Meta Quest headset. The new version is positioned as the “world’s first mass-market” device, featuring a 30% jump in visual and audio fidelity compared to Quest 2.
Improved Features
The Meta Quest 3 supports the new Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 platform and features two displays with a resolution of 2064 x 2208 per eye. It also includes an optical stack for infinite viewing.
