Mr. Smith, who was originally from Chorley and attended Holy Cross RC High School, worked as an electrician, was former soldier and company director of local firm LPS Electrical and Build NW Ltd. of Shevington Moore.
It turned out that Mr. Smith helped raise funds for his friend and former soccer player George Melling, who died at age 37 after diagnosis with motor neuron disease.
Mr. Melling played for Blackpool, Morecambe, Altrincham, Leyland Town, Kendal and home team, Coppul. Back in May, Mr. Smith posted a tribute on his Facebook page: “See you soon big human. You will be missed.”
