Jorge Masvidal is the right man to fill in for Gilbert Burns at UFC 251.
Late Friday night it was revealed that Gilbert Burns and his cornermen had tested positive for COVID-19 and would not be boarding the plane to Fight Island. This meant his headlining title fight with former teammate Kamaru Usman was off and the would-be fairy tale for Burns was slipping away. We don’t really know exactly what the UFC plans to do with the fight, though reports indicate they’d like to postpone the bout, rather than find a replacement for Burns. This is also why, though COVID-19 free, Usman did not head to Abu Dhabi as planned.
But for the sake of the fans, and for the sake of UFC 251 if the promotion did plan to replace Burns, we know just the guy.
BMF champ, Jorge Masvidal.
We know the likelihood of this fight getting made with enough time for these guys to get to Fight Island is going to be tough, but it’s MMA and the UFC has seemingly unlimited resources so you never know.
We already know Masvidal wants it. He tweeted a hint implying that he was and his manager Abraham Kawa confirmed to Ariel Helwani he is “absolutely willing” to take the battle. We likewise understand there are other men in wings simply as excited and not as hard to work out with … like Colby Covington.
What about a Kamaru Usman vs. Colby Covington rematch?
Covington desires the rematch however it simply does not feelright We believe a great deal of the fans are over the Covington shtick and right now with the political environment we are in it appears too dangerous to possibly had Covington a mic and a big platform. Can all of us simply concur to neglect Covington for a while and hope he changes up his M.O?
Masvidal is plainly the right man for the task and it would be the ideal time for Masvidal to ask for the money he thinks he is worthy of. He ‘d have some utilize and the UFC may simply want to work out a bit more in a pitch. That is unless they truly do strategy to simply rebook Burns and Usman. If it’s Usman vs. Masvidal you are hoping for,
Keep your toes and fingers crossed.
