Internet outage issue under investigation: PTA – Tech

“According to the Pakistan Telecommunications Company (PTCL), [an] issue was reported in data networks between south and north, which causes problems with the Internet connection.

“This issue being investigated. The PTA is monitoring the situation and will share further updates,” the agency said.

The announcement came after users across the country reported facing internet interruptions, with #internetdown Existence one of major trends on Twitter around 11am.

For its part, PTCL stated that its optical fiber network “experienced some technical problems” due to heavy rains and flooding.

“As a result, PTCL users in northern and central regions facing [an] internet shutdown. Our teams working on restoring services on priority,” the statement said.

In May, internet outages were reported across the country amid rumors that government suspended the service because of protests organized by exiles prime minister Imran Khan.

However, the PTA denied accepting any such decision and explained that the Transworld ISP was facing little degradation.

Prior to this, internet services in Pakistan suffered in February after one of two submarine cables operated by TransWorld were damaged near Karachi.
