Imran suspends court arrest drive after election verdict

LAHORE: Welcoming the decision of the Supreme Court ordering Holding of polls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, Imran Khan on Wednesday announced suspension of court arrest drive and said its Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party will now move forward with elections campaign.

His tweet came hours after the Supreme Court announced sentence on suo moto notice with majority 3-2, ordering Holding of V vote within the constitutional terms of 90 days.

“We welcome [Supreme Court] judgment. It was the responsibility of [Supreme Court] uphold the Constitution, and they have valiantly made it their decision today.” former prime minister said.

“We [therefore] suspension of our movement Jail Bharo [and] moving forward with [election] campaigns in KP [and] Punjab”.

Assemblies of two provinces were dissolved by the khan on January 14 in an attempt to force the central government for special elections that are scheduled in October of this year.

Movement was part of Khansky campaign to protest against the placement of “fictitious cases” against V party leaders, including himself, and push government of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for early election.

Khan was overthrown prime minister in April of last year after a controversial no-confidence motion was accepted in parliament.

He blamed his unceremonious exile on a US-backed conspiracy, a claim that Islamabad and Washington have denied.

Election Committee, in October last yeardisqualified khan for “illegal sale giftshe received from foreign dignitaries, fueling yet another political turmoil in a country.
