Imaan Mazar provided pre-arrest pledge in The case of “pejorative” remarks

Islamabad: Lawyer and human rights activist Imaan Zainab Mazari achieved pre-arrest pledge in case of using “pejorative” remarks against government agencies, ARY News reports.

Imaan Mazari is daughter of former Human rights minister and Pakistani Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shirin Mazari.

Supreme Court of Islamabad upheld pre-arrest Mazar’s temporary pledge in case registered against her for using derogatory remarks against state institutions.

The case was filed against her Lieutenant Colonel Humayun Akhtar at the Ramna Islamabad Police Station under Sections 138 PPC (Aiding of act of insubordination on the part of a soldier) and 505 (Indications conducive to public misfortune).

Humayun Akhtar is the representative of Judge Advocate General’s Division (JAG) of General Staff (GHQ).

JAG is a branch of the Pakistan Armed Forces, which consists of senior lawyers, judges and officers who provide legal services to the armed forces.

According to the statement, Imaan made “pejorative and hateful” statement on May 21, her day mother was arrested from outside her house.

“Derogatory statements are extremely disparaging and aimed at cause and incite mutiny/intimidation among the rank and file of in the Pakistani army”, adding that they caused “ridicule and hatred in the Pakistani army, while also causing unrest in the facility,” the FIR said in a statement.

Imaan’s lawyer disputed the FIR, calling it baseless and calling the allegations absurd. Her lawyer claimed that her client was made victim of ulterior motives and willfulness of applicant and others who very influential.”

The court found her plea and gave Mazar-Khazir pre-arrest pledge for two weeks.
